As we step into a new year, I cannot shake this feeling in my heart. As I sought God in what He wanted me to say, this message kept on coming back to me over and over: Bring God glory.
God wants us, His people, to focus on Him and bring Him all the glory. Not just for others to see, but also in the moments where no one is around. In the things we allow our eyes to see and watch. In the daily choices that we make. The words that we allow to come out of our mouth. In the way that we love, forgive, surrender, and obey.
If we are going to start any new habit this year, let it be this: Go to God every night in prayer and be still before Him. Ask Him the question that matters most and what He longs to hear from each of us: Did I please You today?
You may even do what I do and keep a journal where you answer this one question each night. And this is not to condemn or shame us. Instead, this one tiny act will bring you so much closer to the heart of God. We will not get it right all the time. We will need to repent, even often sometimes. But our transformation and progression will please the very heart of God.
This year, my prayer is simple: That we will love God again. Truly love Him. Not with lip service or good intentions. But with obedience. The Bible makes it clear that God will never desire our sacrifices over obedience. And partial obedience is full disobedience. We cannot please God with half of our heart. He deserves all of it.
Let us become a people who please God. Not occasionally or accidentally, but intentionally. Do not wait to hear it at the pearly gates. God longs to say it to you right now: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
My friend, may this be the year where your life brings the utmost glory to God.
Shalom.
